MY EVERYDAY MAKEUP LOOK

I’ve mentioned before that I have a  pretty complicated relationship with makeup, haven’t I? Some days all I need is some basic clear lip balm to make sure my lips don’t chap (ouch!) and that’s it. Other days, I crave a full “face beat” and go all out. Most days, I probably make sure my eyebrows are presentable and I’ve got some eyeliner on because I am more or less addicted to it and also, to ward off the evil eye! Haha. Lately, however, I’ve developed an everyday look . . . something minimal but not bare, present but not prominent. And one that is flexible enough to match my mood or desire. A defined brow, lined eyes and a nude/subtle lip. Effortless and elegant. When I need to spice it up a little, some shimmer on the eyes and lips does the trick. Details below.

FACE

Most days, the only thing I apply on my face is moisturiser. I’m currently on  Nivea Shine control Moisturisng Day Cream – which is supposed to work for my combination skin type. So far so good and I love how light it is and how yummy it smells. Plus it has an SPF of 15 so, yay! Plus I do have an affinity for Nivea products. No need to pile on sunscreen. I’ve been using this for about a month and so far, so good.

I very rarely have any foundation on because my skin is quite sensitive and will break out like that! *snaps fingers* So I opt to stay away from it unless I am in one of my more glamorous moods that requires a fully made up face, I find myself in the presence of a makeup artist willing to play with my face, and when I’m on TV for KTN Kenya’s Morning Express show. I found this perfect shade of Black Opal oil absorbing pressed powder and it looks good and I am sure I will whip it out once a while.

EYES

Not to sound repetitive, but I cannot do without eyeliner! I do have my off days when I don’t use any. AT ALL! *gasp* and end up looking sleepy or sickly or quite puffy eyed. On the daily though, I wear my liner any which way (again, depends on my mood) so anything from full rim to smokey eye to classic winged goes. I also switch up what kind of liner I use and at the moment that’s between my trusted Kohl/Kajal stick, Sleek’s twist up eye pencil in Midnight (No. 133), Luron’s Deep Black liquid eyeliner and a gel liner (can’t remember the brand and it rubbed off). Sometimes I top it off with some mascara and for now my two staples are YSL in Shocking and Constance Carroll curling mascara (number rubbed off).

For shimmer I use Clinique colour surge eyeshadow in Twiglet and my favourite Quo palette in Beauty & Bronze. These hues all blend with and compliment my complexion with subtlety and that works for me during the day.

And because these brows won’t fleek themselves, I usually brush them with a dried up mascara brush (I prefer it to an eyebrow brush – go figure!) and then just fill them in with a Davis pencil (No. 040). The brown is deep enough to look natural but not as stark as black does. I love love love a full brow so I try to never skip eyebrows. I’ve tried a couple of eyebrow kits, but I just have not mastered them.

LIPS

I love my lips nice and creamy! *smacks lips* These matte ones don’t play nice on me 🙁 I am never far from my Nivea Essential Care lip balms. They are so perfect. But I like to add some colour to them and either use a lip liner, or any colour in the nude range that suits me. So far I alternate between or combine: Maybelline’s Baby Lips in Pink Punch; Lancome Shine Lover in 212 (the pinks); Fat Lips (number rubbed off) for a more peachy tone; and Jordana Coco Malt (N0. 175) or Constance Carroll in Coffee Shimmer (No. 366) when I want to go brown.

I love this look because it’s quick and easy enough to do everyday, it’s soft enough for work and play and transitions well into the night with a few tweaks here and there like slightly darker lips or a more dramatic eye. So, that’s my everyday look, which I reckon would work on almost anyone. Try it out or share yours.

    Hey Oshin,

Hello Sherwood, thank you so much for reading and for the comment/compliments. I’m not sure I’m really good at makeup but I’m learning and I love it. Pink lips are too cute. I agree. 🙂 For branded cosmetics, I have many favourites, both drugstore and high end brands. Chanel, MAc, Estee Lauder, Maybelline, Clinique, etc. Whatever works for me I use. My favorite pink lipbalm is teh Maybelline Babylips in Pink Punch, like I have in this post, and for lipstick it’s the Estee Lauder Rose Tea Cream. Nudy pinks, that is. Hope this helps. You can check out my other makeup posts via links below for more looks etc . . . hope you enjoy.

The kohl eyeliner keeps transferring to my eyelid. How do you stop yours from doing that?
Also have you noticed how I have just discovered your blog and going through all your posts.hahaha!

Babe, there’s no way to stop the dripping because our body temperatures make the kohl melt. All we can do is be vigilant and wipe the smudge. At least that’s all I can do. Same I guess for the eyelid. When I want it clean I use a liquid liner, when I wouldn’t mind the smudge then kohl stick or pencil works . . . smokey eye by force hahah. Just wipe.

And yes, I’ve seen the love! Thank you. I really do appreciate it. I’m all smiles here and hoping for more feedback from you.

Also, check out the post on kohl.
