Ah, The Met Gala: bold, flambouyant, risque, fun and very very serious! The thought and dedication and courage most attendees put into their ensembles is always impressive . . . even when we sometimes don’t get it. It’s not a joke folks, especially since Anna Wintour is the captain of that ship. This year’s theme was Manus x Machina : Fashion in the age of technology. Think about it for a moment . . . You’re picturing all these futuristic/metallic/robotic pieces like Beyonce wore in ‘Beautiful Nightmare’ or the quintessential Michael Jackson robotic look right?
Well, there was more to the theme than just the predictable, albeit dynamic, aesthetic I had in mind. You see, in this world where fashion is becoming more technologically advanced and technology is becoming more fashionable (yeah, you with the rose gold iWatch!), it’s hard to ignore the synergy. The interplay. The necessity. Fashion x Technology baby. But even with that being said, most of my picks for best dressed below are still the metallic ones which were abundant and gorgeous and so stylish. However, I will say that some of the ones I have overlooked really thoroughly incorporated the theme right down to the last stitch – like Sarah Jessica Parker’s otherwise bland suit that was more tech for fashion than tech powered fashion.
This was so epic! My absolute favorite piece of teh night. Zac Posen literally had the Met Gala #Lit as the cool kids say with this illuminated and striking gown. Wow. Wow.
The Ball was a stunning event with a lot of Balmain, slicked back hair and celebrity children (all grown up now!) and Madonna being Madonna hahaha.
There were 2 very special maraschino cherries on top. The first one was Idris Elba in that bautiful tuxedo. *sigh* And that glorious British accent as he co-hosted the event. Bless. The second was that killer performance by The Weeknd and Nas on a Baz Lurhman designed set thank you very much! How much more epic does it get?
The Met Gala was typically fantastic and whimsical and full of the kind of energy that makes everyone giddy and euphoric. I’m still a little dizzy from not having SJP in my best dressed list, but alas, she stayed true to the theme and for that, she is always a winner to me. Can’t wait for next year!
