My Madora Makeover

A few weeks ago I attended the True Love Magazine champagne breakfast. Lavish! They were celebrating their 12th birthday and it was fantastic. I met many lovely people and among them, Kamlesh Kamy, the MD of Madora. You know Madora right? State of the art, luxury cosmetics and fragrance retailers extraordinaire. Just drop by one of their outlets at either Westgate Mall or The Karen Hub and see for yourself. Kamlesh was delightful and by the end of our decadent conversation, he’d booked me in for a makeover at Madora. Yay!

So I made my way over to their Karen Hub store to get my face beat. When I got there, I spent a good 20 minutes just walking around thirsting over all the goodies. Rows and racks full of perfume and makeup by brands like Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, Clarins . . . Β you name it! Beautiful! Finally, a place right here in Nairobi to get authentic high-end cosmetics that I used to have to wait to send someone abroad for. So much win! I was introduced to my makeup artist for the day – Perine – and we got started. Unfortunately, Rico, my Photographer, couldn’t make it so I didn’t take the best pictures. Mea culpa.

Perine was very warm and we started chatting away immediately. She answered my infinite questions on makeup techniques and trends and gave me some great tips and recommendations. Through it all she worked wonders on my face. She started off by chucking whatever I had on with a Lancome makeup remover. Then she gave me a full cleansing and toning using Clarins products before priming my face Β with one of my new favourite brands, Black Up.Β She then did my eyebrows and eye makeup; a lush mix of Chanel and Dior. After that, she moved on to Black Up foundation, which matched to my complexion so perfectly I vowed to get some. Then came the part I was most excited for: the contouring. I’d never tried it before and it really did make a difference in defining the planes of my visage. Thanks to Perine’s personal instructions, I can do it now πŸ™‚

To finish off, she lined and lacquered my lips avec Chanel rouge, powdered and sprayed me with setting serum and I was done. The result was gorgeous, if I do say so myself. As I didn’t have plans that day, I couldn’t show off my Madora makeover but I ask you: if a girl gets a makeover and there’s nobody there to see it, does she still slay? Yes!
