Summer time! At least for the Northern hemisphere. June-August here in Kenya is usually the coldest. Funny how when one part of the wold is heating up, we’re freezing and vice versa. But this time around June hasn’t been so cold. Actually some sunny days and clear skies. Global warming? Moody Mother Nature? Nairobi weather feeling Summer fomo? Whatever the case, I’m glad because I can rock my MAC Fruity Juicy eye-shadow x 6 palette in Fruit A La La and feel/look in season 🙂 I love this palette because it’s got it all: matte, shimmer, neutral, bright and dark shadows. What more could a mercurial girl like me want?

I got this palette in a goody bag from the MAC Art of the Lip event Nkemi PR held about a month ago to celebrate the 1st anniversary of their Junction Mall outlet. I absolutely love the packaging because it’s so different. First of all, it’s metal. Then, it’s vividly tropical in design with the fruits and flowers painted on. The entire collection looks like one big fruit burst! And forget the nudes, it’s all about colour in bright juicy tones. I’ve been playing with the palette and thought I’d share some of my favourite looks I managed to create from it, below.
full makeup/product details at the end.
YOUNG IN THE SUN
I adore that natural radiance youth boasts. Remember the days when all we’d have on was a little eyeliner or mascara and some tinted lipgloss/lipbalm and life would do the rest? Glow up co-signed by God! Concealer? Ha! For what? What is primer? Just young, bright eyed and bushy tailed. The days! Doing the most was wearing some of the glitter eye-shadow freebies that we got with Shout! Magazines. Haha. I recreated that look and mood because fun in the sun is forever young and I’m trying to be 18 ’till I die. I kept it very monochrome and glowy only using the iArriba! shimmer shade, a moderate winged liner and mascara on my eyes. I went nude on my lips. I absolutely love the finished look 🙂
*Ahem* if I do say so myself. There’s just something about a smokey eye that makes me feel mysterious and powerful. Like I belong in a film noir opposite Humphrey Bogart with a cigarette in hand about to spit out a legendary one-liner. Nope, no clean wing for me in my film noir . . . smokey and alluring is how I want it 🙂 For this look I had on the iArriba! shimmer shade shadowed by the Black Cocktail darker one to create the smokiness. For added depth I smudged my eyeliner from my lower waterline and onto part of the lid. I darkened the brown liner on my lip and added some gloss to glamourize.
RIPE & READY
You know how juicy ripe fruits get and look? Just so succulent and rich. Just ready *sluuuurp* of course I had to do a look inspired by that. I mean even the collection’s name is asking for it 🙂 But I had to bring out the juice in more than just the Fuchsia Fury shade that I selected for this look. It had to have something extra. And the MAC eye gloss in Love Your Body from their Work it Out collection was just the cherry on top! Literally. I glazed the gloss all over the fuchsia eye-shadow all over my lids and it was such a beautiful oily look. I had to do the same to my lips and added a little mascara to make it work. Yummy and summery right?
1 palette, 6 shades, 3 fun looks for sunny days and hot nights. I’m still playing with this palette and hoping the weather keeps shining on so I can keep rocking all the happy summer looks and vibes. Aloha!
